CHRISTMAS TIPS AND REMINDERS TO HELP MAKE A HOLIDAY SEASON A LESS PAINFUL ONE!

The Christmas season can be a Fabulous season, but there are also quite a lot of things that can increase your headaches and migraines around this time. So let's go through a couple of tips and reminders to help try to make the Christmas season/the end-of-year season an absolutely fabulous time.

We tend to socialize more towards the end of the year, and some people are going out more, staying out longer, which can disrupt their sleep cycle. Headaches and migraines are really susceptible to changes in sleep-wake cycles. So trying to make sure that you're staying on a regular sleep cycle and also making sure that you're getting really good quality sleep is gonna be really important at this time of year as well as any time of the year really.

Alcohol is one of those things that a  lot of people are really sensitive to when it comes time for their headaches and migraines, but alcohol can also disrupt your sleep as well. If alcohol is not setting off your headaches and migraines and you know that it's not setting off your headaches and migraines, then drink responsibly.

Try to make sure that you're not drinking too close to bedtime because it actually doesn't give you the best quality sleep. Sleep is really important for headaches and migraines. When you sleep and you're under the effects of alcohol, then you usually tend to go into a really dead, non-motion type of sleep. That can also lead to awkward sleeping positions. It can impact your neck as well, which can lead to an increase in headaches and migraines. Try to avoid drinking as close to bedtime as possible.

We also have an increase in stress when it comes time for the end of the year, buying Christmas presents. We're busier as well. There's an increase in traffic out on the roads and in shopping centres and all those sorts of things. Make sure that you're taking time to look after yourself. Make sure that you're taking the time to do something that is relaxing to decrease stress like taking a bubble bath.

It’s important to look after your self-care, that's gonna be really important. Otherwise, that can lead to an increase in your headaches and migraines. There are also all those rich and decadent foods that we see around Christmas time. We do tend to eat different things as well.

These sorts of foods can lead to an increase in headaches and migraines. Just be mindful of some of the foods that you might be eating. Again, it doesn't mean that you have to avoid them, and it doesn't mean that you have to be worried about the types of foods, but just be mindful of the eating and the quantities of food that we are eating.

If you eat, an awful lot of sugar, then you might notice an increase in your headaches and migraines. Everything should be in moderation.

If you do notice food that you haven't eaten throughout the rest of the year, and now you're eating it, and noticed an increase in headaches and migraines, maybe there's something in that food that might be triggering your headaches and migraines.

Another thing to take note of. Around this time of year, in Melbourne and in Australia, the temperature does tend to rise. We do tend to notice that there's an increase in temperature and humidity, so it's important to make sure that you're drinking water as well as electrolytes.

Electrolytes are really important when it's hot. Because if you're deficient in your electrolytes, sodium and potassium in particular, then that can lead to an increase in headaches and migraines as well.

Make sure that we're hydrated from all aspects to try to decrease those headaches and migraines.

Hope you find these useful. Trying to make sure that our Christmas season and the end of your season is as awesome as possible, and I hope you enjoy this time of year.
